(SUB-GROUP: UNDERCOVER AUTOBOT, DECEPTICON CYBERJET)
FUNCTION: AIR GUARDIAN
FIRST APPEARANCE: TRANSFORMERS #11
"Among the mysteries of science lies the key to victory."
Profile: With a reckless daring that comes from being the swiftest of all the Autobots, Jetfire is the most eager of his comrades to plunge into battle. But his bravado is tempered by one overriding thought: he sincerely believes that victory over the Decepticons can only come through advancements in Autobot technology. As the first of a new generation of Autobots such a credo is perhaps only natural. Also, because he was created on Earth, Jetfire is one of the few Autobots who has no memory of his home planet. His allegiance to his cause is only matched by his devotion to scientific research.
Abilities: In jet-fighter mode, Jetfire's unique swing-wing design allows him to take off like a normal jet and then, pulling his wings back, reach speeds of up to Mach 4.2. Adding twin supersonic combustion ramjet (i.e. scramjet) engine modules along with twin liquid hydrogen fuel tanks allows Jetfire to achieve orbital velocities, or to even escape Earth's gravity altogether. With this capability, he can launch like a missile, shoot up above the atmosphere, and, at a speed of Mach 29, dive down like a blazing meteor (hence his name) half a world away only 30 minutes later. In robot and jet mode, he is equipped with four independently targetable particle beam cannons around his head and eight heat-seeking armor-piercing missiles.
Weaknesses: Jetfire's range is limited by his fuel consumption; any transatmospheric trip requires his refueling when he lands. Since he is newly constructed by the Ark, he is prone to numerous mechanical failures as the bugs in his system are worked out. Anything from a malfunctioning radio to an engine stall in deep space has been known to happen.

Personal Notes: 1. As Jetfire's TF Universe profile points out, Jetfire was always mistaken for his TF cartoon counterpart, Skyfire. 2. The Jetfire that we know and love was created from the toy version of Robotech's VF-1S Super Valkyrie Veritech Fighter. Since the Robotech series was out in the States at the time Jetfire was introduced, his name, body, and transformation was changed severly to avoid a law suit. But yes, he was meant to be one of a large unit of piloted robot fighter planes resembling F-14 Tomcats. His space flight armor (the red pieces) were seldom seen (in Robotech), though. 3. Other Transformers made by BANDAI (as opposed to TAKARA, the Transformers' true Japanese founders) who were left out of the series include: Whirl, Roadbuster (both believed to also be from Robotech or other animé series), and the Deluxe Insecticons (those who weren't black, purple, & yellow w/unneccesary cockpits). 4. On Jefire's Cyberjet body, his face under his helmet is a gold version of Skyfire's.
Jetfire's origin has been confused with the cartoon series' intro of Skyfire. TF: Alt. attempts to relieve this confusion by merging select pieces from the original TF cartoon and Marvel's TF comic book. Here is how it goes so far: Skyfire was a neutral scientist and pioneer who discovered another planet before he was lost on Earth. This planet's civilization was highly advanced in genetic technologies. To study these advances, Skyfire offered in exchange some of his knowledge on advanced vehicles and machinery. In the years that he was gone, this planet used these gifts to advance itself. These events were watched and recorded by Skyfire, up until the point where he disappeared discovering Earth. His partner, Starscream upon joining the Decepticons, sold a copy of the information to Shockwave. When Skyfire was discovered by the Decepticons, he joined them and then defected. Shockwave found it logical to recreate the temporary advantage he gave them. This Skyfire clone, was gifted with the advantages recorded by Skyfire. When it was complete, Shockwave deceided to name this ultimate weapon Jetfire. Jetfire had one major weakness: he could only follow a set program, and was not "alive", like the other Transformers. The Autobots and their human allies reprogrammed him and after modifying his technology, used the Matrix to make him live. Jetfire has since proved himself a worthy Autobot as their highest ranked flyer and recently by directing the undercover Autobots. He is currently posing with Air Raid and Strafe as part of the Decepticons' new legion of air warriors, the Cyberjets. As a Cyberjet, he now transforms into a G.I. Joe Skystriker, or an F-14. His Decepticon modes are compatible with the body armor sported by his Autobot body.
